The Wine Press has changed somewhat -'mock' bullying of staff and macho behaviour charaterise what appears to have effectively now become an alternative bar - certainly not a place for family dining (the food's not that exciting anyway)or a peaceful glass of wind after a days' work. Bit of a shame since it has a good location and once had a nice, genteel relaxed feel to it. The male owner doesn't seem to have much of a clue and seems more interested in the vanity aspects of ownership/management.

NORWICH, United Kingdom - 18th April 2010

At one stage lived in Woburn Court, used the bar restaurant all the time - they always welcomed my 6 year old boy when he accompanied us and it was very child friendly. It's now under new management; the lady seems lovely but the guy has no idea. On Friday night the 'male' owner spent quite some time play-fighting, mock punching and 'showing off' in a way that was noisy, irritating and annoying to the customers. Then he asked me to keep my son in check who was behaving in a fashion that was far more mature and less purile than himself. I guess it's his bar and his shout....although even his verbal muscle flexing was not entirely mature, since it was unclear, uncertain, weak and wishy-washy....

hockering, United Kingdom - 7th December 2008

I went to the Wine Press with a couple of friends and was bitterly disappointed with every aspect of the experience. We booked the table ahead as we remembered that this was a popular place on a Saturday evening but were greeted by the staff who were unaware that they had a booking and said just sit were you like, then proceeded to tell us that 4 dishes on the menu were off! We decided to order some drinks whilst waiting and there were only 2 out of ten beers available. Having ordered we waited some time for the food which arrived on cold plates and was of extremely poor standard. We were then offered a desert as there was only profiteroles or ice cream availble we declined and went eslewhere for the remainder of the evening. The place looked run down nad dirty and the staff had a nonchalent attitude, we certainly will not be returning

Had a meal here a few weeks ago and have to say - the chef knows how to cook!

The place was immaculate too, as it has been every time me and my friends have been there.

I used to love this place and always used it when in Norwich however, due to a decline in the quality of the wine selection and service I have given it a wide berth in recent months. When I heard new owners had taken over I thought I would give it another try. Oh how I wished I hadn't!! The place was dirty from the entrance throughout, dirty ash trays littered the courtyard. I ordered a steak with all the trimmings, which turned out to be steak, chips (cold) and salad. My wife's salmon was dry, bland and she left most of it. The bad attitude and apparent lack of interest of the staff compounded the whole experience and I certainly won't be going back there for a long while. This is such a shame as potentially it is one of the best wine bars in Norwich, but not under the current ownership.

The Winepress is one of my favourite lunchtime stops whenever I'm in Norwich.

There are two main areas, the bar and the restaurant. The bar is more laid back, where you can chat with the staff, read a paper, have lunch and relax. The service in the restaurant has never been anything less than first class - friendly and efficient.

The food is great - and reasonably priced. Overall, the Winepress is somewhere that I’d recommend without hesitation to my friends.

Edit (5/12/2006): The quality of the food and service has taken a dive in recent months, I've taken this down to 3 stars.

A great place to relax, meet friends and have just the odd tipple of lovely wine. Definetly the best place in the city for wine.

The best wine bar in the city. Laid back and relaxed. Jazz night on Thursday is fantastic, and the pianist is great! Great food and good prices. This is where I met my partner. Need I say more!

Unpretentious,well staffed,and good food.
This is the complete opposite to many bars on a weekend night, because its so relaxed.
Great for wine and a chat.

Been a couple of times with girls I work with that love the place. Seemed ok, nice surroundings but not sure what lured them... most likely the wine! Downside was that the staff (maybe off shift) seemed to all sit round the bar drinking and smoking. Not a major problem, but an observation that gave a less than professional feel to the place.
